The first of the Seven Sisters, Mount Holyoke established higher education
for women as a serious endeavor. Students choose from 49 departmental and
interdepartmental majors and benefit from the resources of centers for
leadership, global initiatives, and the environment. The college has long
been distinguished for its diverse student body: MHC students represent
48 states and nearly 70 countries and more than one in three is an
international student or African American, Latina, Asian, or Native American.
Alumnae have set new standards in medicine, served in Congress, and published
groundbreaking works.
